A common mistake with room heaters is picking the one with the biggest wattage on the page. In a small bedroom it can be too warm within ten minutes, and the electricity bill follows. Heaters look alike, but the differences between them decide whether you sit comfortably or spend the evening turning a knob on and off.
Nights are already getting cooler in a lot of north and central India, and Diwali is close, so this is when many families start looking. Below are three heaters from brands that are easy to find service for: Usha, Bajaj and Havells. I read the specifications on the brand and retailer pages, and I have left prices out because they change from day to day. Use the links to see the current price and recent reviews.
Usha OFR 4211 F, 2500 W oil-filled radiator
An oil-filled radiator warms slowly, then keeps giving off steady heat. This Usha has 11 fins, a built-in 400 W fan, and three power steps of 1000 W, 1500 W and 2500 W. There is an adjustable thermostat knob, overheat protection and a tip-over switch. The page also lists IP23 protection and an ISI mark, with a 24-month warranty that covers manufacturing defects.
What I like is the steady, dry-feeling warmth. It does not glow or blow hot air in your face, which suits a bedroom you sleep in. The fan helps move heat around when you want the room warm sooner.
The downsides are practical. It weighs 13 kg, though it has castor wheels and a recessed handle. It takes a while to warm up, so it is a poor choice if you want heat in two minutes before a shower. At the top setting it draws 2.5 kW, so run it on the lower steps once the room is comfortable.
It suits families with elderly members or children, bedrooms, and anyone who keeps a heater on for hours. Skip it if you move a heater from room to room every day or have a very small budget.
Bajaj Majesty RX11, 2000 W
This is the compact, fast option. Bajaj lists it at 2000 W with two settings, 1000 W and 2000 W, plus an adjustable thermostat. For safety there is a thermostat, an automatic thermal cutout and a thermal fuse, along with a cool-touch housing. The warranty is 24 months for manufacturing defects.
It weighs 8 kg and measures about 32 x 14 x 32 cm when open, so it fits beside a desk or in a corner without taking over the room. It heats quickly because a fan pushes the warm air out. That makes it good for a study room or a home office where you want warmth soon.
The trade-off is the fan itself. Fan heaters make some noise, and the air can feel drier than the air from a radiator. If light sleepers share your room, listen to a demo or read recent reviews about noise before you decide. Also note that Amazon calls this a heat convector while some retailers file it as a fan heater, so check the listing text before you order.
It suits small rooms, short sessions and people who want a lighter heater they can carry. Skip it if you want silence overnight.
Havells Pacifio Mica, 2000 W
The Pacifio uses micathermic technology, which sits between a radiator and a fan heater. It heats faster than an oil-filled unit, and Havells lists it as noiseless in operation. It has two modes, 1000 W and 2000 W, an adjustable thermostat, overheat protection and a tip-over switch. The warranty is 24 months for manufacturing defects.
It is the lightest of the three at 2.6 kg, and it stands on castor wheels. Its open dimensions are roughly 25.6 x 45.1 x 65.5 cm, which is tall and flat rather than wide. Since Havells lists it as noiseless, it should suit a bedroom or a workspace better than a fan heater.
The downside is that a panel heater warms the area near it better than a whole large room. If you sit far from it, you may not feel much. The panel can also get hot to the touch, so keep it clear of curtains and children’s reach.
It suits a single bedroom, a work-from-home desk, and anyone who wants quiet and a light unit. Skip it if you need to warm a big hall.
How to choose

Start with the room, not the wattage. A small bedroom rarely needs more than a 1000 W to 2000 W heater, and a unit with a thermostat will cut power once the room is warm. Heaters with several settings let you start high and drop to a lower step, which saves electricity over a long evening.
Think about when you will use it. For a few hours of evening work, a fan heater or a micathermic panel warms you quickly. For a bedroom that stays closed all night, an oil-filled radiator gives steadier heat. Do not leave any heater running while you are out of the house.
Check the safety features on the listing: overheat protection, a tip-over switch, and a cut-out. Plug a heater straight into a wall socket rated for the load and avoid thin extension boards. A 2000 W heater uses 2 units of electricity for every hour at full power, so a thermostat and a lower setting really do matter on your bill.
Weight and wheels count more than people expect. If you plan to move the heater between rooms daily, a 13 kg radiator becomes a chore. Last, keep a little fresh air in the room. If a window is never opened, the air gets stale, whatever heater you run.
